The idea of setting of a new area ministry in Kemaman was mooted when the family of Wilson Sanabong and a few others went to to the Church of Epiphany, Kuantan for the Christmas Service in 1999. After the initial discussion with The Rev. David Devapitchai, the Priest-in-Charge that time and support from the PCC members, the first service commenced on the 8th of January 2000 in the setting of a Holy Communion at Mr. Wilson Sanabong's residence. Services were held on 1st and 3rd Saturdays at 6.30pm in English and Bahasa Malaysia. On August 2000 St. Joseph's moved to a rented shophouse located at Dusun Nyiur. The average attendance for the year 2002 was 40 members. The total number of baptism from year 2000-2002 was 41 (15 adult, 26 children) while 21 members were confirmed during that period.
Mission Partnership
On 26th August 2003, Dean of Cathedral, The Very Rev. Jason Selvaraj visited the church and sees the potential for Church Partnership. Archdeacon Charles Samuel and Rev. Jeremiah also present that time. On 14th March 2004, the memorandum for Mission Partnership (3 years) were signed at St. Mary's Cathedral during the Sunday Service.
